its true, i have no desires to be a hero, my desire is to obey and stand firm but we need a break for a bit to recharge and even the fact that you thought of sending us away even though you cant means so much

thank u phoebe i really appreciate that , it means allot because you have been here and really understand what its like here. we would love to get away longer to recharge but we simply dont have any resources to do that, we have just enough to keep going and its been a long 6 month stretch with out a break, we got married and didnt have a honeymoon and had to use our honeymoon savings fund to pay for a new transmission on our truck then a week later the truck had more issues that cost us 300 we didnt have so some friends donated to help us. all the money that comes in is not for us its for the ministry and we have to be accountable thats why i prayed for a small miracle so we can get away for a break together, funds above and beyond what we recieve to run things, we needed to repair our truck becuase with out it we cant do food drops or outreach ..it was hard to have to use the honeymoon fund to repair the truck but we are missionaries trying to survive here and not able to make money like before when we were in canada, i try to get freelance work so we can put some more money aside but its hard here and i dont have time to focus on trying to market my self while i am trying to do ministry here at the same time..my husbands been in school for 4 months here so he can bring some more money into the house after he graduates and i can run our day programs with the help of some locals while he is at work..its been a fight to survive here so in order for us to be able to step back for a bit to refresh we need a miracle

Traumatic what you are going through. I am praying… and if I had the cash I’d take my wife, and you both for some time away in Paris. You don’t have to be a hero here or anywhere. All you need to do is listen and obey and right now I hear “you need some time away. All will become clear again.”

Hi Steph,
I was connected to you from a mutual friend. I’ve been to Haiti several times for long periods. Your reaction is completely understandable, and the burnout factor is real. When you’re trying to help people who are shoving guns in your face and insulting you on a regular basis, the boldness in which you began your ministry starts to dwindle. I think it’s ok for you and your husband to take more than just a weekend away. On the field, I compare it to running an Ironman: pace, fuel, hydrate. You can do this through Christ who gives you strength, but pacing yourself now is so important. You have the right idea. Bless you sister.

Steph, I can totally relate to how you are feeling. When I travel to rural areas of Africa, I get the here’s the white person we can talk about disrespectfully and with hate, yet at the same time ask and ask and ask for handouts. All I’m good for is to give handouts, apparently. I haven’t had to deal with the level of violence that you have, but I understand the racial tensions. I just wanted to tell you “don’t give up”! You can do it. When I look at how Jesus came and walked amongst us, he faced death threats, verbal abuse, discrimination and yet He loved. So you are just doing as Jesus did :) If your response to hate is to love, then you will always win. And i truly believe if you live your life among the poor and the needy, the will see how you live and praise God. 1 Peter 2:12 “Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives.”
